Centreville Bulldogs Defeat Cassopolis 5-4 in the Bottom of the 10th Inning: Advancing to State Quarterfinals

Centreville Defeats Cassopolis 5-4, In Division Four Regional Finals, With a 10th Inning Winning Hit.

Fans of both teams lined the chain-link fence in New Buffalo Saturday to cheer on their respective teams as this championship game was the fourth in the playoff contest.   With the game tied, at the bottom of the tenth inning, Centreville's Jalen Brown ended the tension with a solid hit into center field to bring in Reynolds for the winning run.

Centreville's Head Coach, Mike Webster, commented on the win, stating "We stuck in there and came out champions.  I couldn't be more proud."

"The first thing that comes to mind is the heart this team has.  The big story of this game is Jalen Brown with all his hits, he kept us in the game.  Jalen Brown is the MVP of that regional championship …and I'm so proud of him."

Centreville advances to the state quarterfinals Tuesday, at 4 p.m., at Battle Creek's Bailey Park where it will take on Climax-Scotts.

Interestingly, in 2006, Centreville took on Climax-Scotts in the regionals where Centreville won.  Tuesday's game and Coach Michael Webster's Centreville Bulldogs young team (with only one senior that starts as a positional player) is definitely gaining momentum and experience by successfully playing in back-to-back district title tames and regional tournaments.

Webster also stated that "with a record of 25-1 this season, we remind ourselves when it comes to playing the state quarterfinals, our record will not carry us…we need to play our best game now and that's exactly what we need to be able to do going into Tuesday's game."

"Run support for our pitching staff will be the key to victory here on out.  We have a combined team ERA of 2.06, with Michael Kool, Coletin Gascho and Jordan Gest.  We also have a much improved team batting average of .317."

"In the four years as the Bulldogs' varsity head coach, I have never been involved with a team of players with as much drive and desire to reach their highest potential on so many different levels."

Next up:  State Quarterfinals, Tuesday, June 9, 2015 at Battle Creek's Bailey Park.  Centreville vs Climax-Scotts.
